Jean-Daniel BouvardJean-Daniel was studying architecture in Paris when he decided to re-dedicate himself completely to art. His training in architecture provided Bouvard with a strong understanding of the space and construction of a painting, and the importance of light. He learned about the laws of harmony, color and perspective, and the combination of light and shadow to create moods. Bouvard wants his audience to experience his observation of informal and habitual locations. In his newest works, one continues to experience his stark studies, occasionally populated by a lone human figure. One’s eye first travels in to the subject, and then out to the wide and lightly colored walls. There is a solitary and isolated sentiment to each of Bouvard’s pieces. The subject doesn't matter," says Bouvard, "what does is light, shadow, mood, ambiance; and imagining what is beyond the painting." There, in each of these artworks, is a reigning notion of free will, which exists only insofar as the limits in one’s life permit.
