Judith Williams
Born and raised in a small town in upstate New York, Judith Williams took an interest in art early in life. She was inspired by the drawings done by her mother, Dorothy Rutherford, who was a syndicated artist with her Tillie The Toiler paper dolls during the 1930s and 1940s. As a child Judith’s interest in art was obvious and she was strongly encouraged by her mother. Judith’s interest in drawing and painting the human figure comes from these early experiences. Judith’s process involves a lot of editing and re-editing, digging and searching, painting and repainting, covering with layers of clothing patterns and drawing until she is satisfied she has come up with the image she was searching for. Judith’s process of layering with clothing patterns and paint and covering and uncovering reveal the beauty of being human, flaws included. Her paintings are a reflection of the deeper self.
