A runner, Dauphinée often captures on canvas the beauty she passes. She feels fortunate to live surrounded by her subject, with her studio and stilt house overlooking the sunset view of the marsh. Dauphinée’s typical process involves priming and scrubbing high quality acid-free mat board and then infusing the surface with washes of warm and cool hues appropriate to the paintings composition. From here, she builds up the surface with layers of opaque acrylic and further washes. Dauphinée is particularly concerned with the interplay of positive and negative shapes and forms; it is these elements that define and shape her images. Atmospheric value contrast is often the primary motive for painting a particular landscape. Her art is characterized by enthusiastic brushwork and impressionistic interpretations.
